Marie: And the thing is -- Clay is not just handsome, and I know he had a little fashion help -- but he is (do I say pretty or beautiful here) handsome on the inside. He is engaging and charming. Maybe Simon's gig is all show, but I think we will continue to hear about Clay long after Simon is shelved. 2003-07-22 12:34:26

Who the heck voted for Simon? As far as I'm concerned...boobs on a " man" (and I use the term very loosely) are NOT attractive! I noticed Clay's inner beauty before I noticed how handsome he is....and now, he's just so frickin' HOT! 2003-07-22 12:43:08

I think the middle-aged broads could have the clearest handle on what handsome is all about. To quote my favorite line from someone's amazing rendition of "Grease,": "This is a life of illusion." Those of us with a little experience have been through a few illusions, picked ourselves up and learned better how to recognize true gold in a man. As a species, our biological programming on "handsome" is to look for simple symmetry. Thus, at first, Simon looked traditionally handsome to me, while Clay stirred up something deep inside that I didn't even know how to recognize. As we got to know Simon better and his arrogance, vanity, and shallowness persisted, he started to look uglier and uglier to me. He now, quite frankly, repulses me, and I feel like if I look at him too long, I'll get slimed. As we got to know Clay better, the beauty in his soul, light in his eyes, warmth in his soul, alert consciousness, perspective, and humor, and all the adjective-escaping gorgeous stuff that comes through when he sings -- well, frankly, his face could technically have looked like anything at all, and with that beauty pouring out of it from inside, we'd grow to love it and be completely attracted to it -- as we have. All of a sudden, we love facial ticks and big ears. This is a life of illusion -- except for the love part, and when it shines, it's very fine and handsome indeed. 2003-07-22 16:53:05
